Just one tiny shred

The Lord will work out his plans for my life— for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever. Don’t abandon me, for you made me. (Psalm 138:8)

For many believers, there are times when they don't actually see God working in their lives, believing that he has perhaps forgotten about his 'plans' for them. It is as though God has abandoned them for some reason. At those moments, they can either choose to take things into their own hands, or they can choose to keep their eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of ALL his handiwork!

It can be hard to 'not see' God and still trust him. We are sensory or tactile individuals, so we look for 'evidence' as a basis by which we determine if something or someone is doing what they are supposed to be doing. If someone tells us they will take out the trash, we might use our sense of smell and our eyesight to observe that they job has been done as promised, right? When we enter into this 'unseen' world of faith, it is hard to always see the evidence, even when we are looking right at it!

The Lord WILL work out his plans for your life. There isn't a 'maybe' in that passage. In fact, in the original Hebrew, it references the immutability of God (his unchangeableness). When God says he will work out his plans for our lives, there is no 'waffling' about it. We may not SEE God moving, but he is within and outside his creation - never abandoning his oversight and protection. He will work it out - we must trust his faithfulness. I know it gets hard at times to trust it will all work out, but God doesn't set things in motion just to see them fail.

His love may be all we trust when times seem to 'reveal' something other than 'good circumstances'. It can even be hard for us to trust his love when all around us seems to be kind of messed up and in a total muddle. Yet, we must never forget his love is unchangeable, always faithful, and never without mercy. We can rely upon it when everything else seems to be telling us otherwise. We might be holding onto one shred of his love and mercy right now, but that is frequently all we need! Just sayin!
