Don’t put your confidence in powerful people; there is no help for you there. When they breathe their last, they return to the earth, and all their plans die with them. But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God. (Psalm 146:3-5)
Powerful people think their lives can 'command', 'control', and 'conquer'. They forget their plans are momentary and all true success comes from God alone. They may amass - but God can take it all away in a breath. They may sway - but truth eventually comes to the surface. They can oversee and over-reach - but their steps cannot affect the one protected by God.
We must never lose sight of truth - it brings balance when 'powerful people' want to bring 'new ideas' or 'new ideals' into play. God's kids are given the privilege of knowing truth - we must always lean into truth no matter who seems to be in control of what we are being told or observing with our eyes. God's favor rests on his people and it protects their hearts from evil. We cannot give into pressures to conform to standards or ideals that do not align with his truth.
We place our confidence in his Word, on his demonstrated acts of love, and in the assurance of his presence that gives he gives by filling us with his Holy Spirit. God isn't going to always shut down the evil around us. He does give us the means to deal with it, though. We don't see a way out from under the control of the evil one who seeks to control us because their influence seems to be too great.
Remember, the evil one is a master of deception and the only way to overcome evil is with truth. We place our confidence in the person of truth - Jesus Christ. Evil people attempt to influence, but it is very hard to influence one who is solidly planted and rooted in truth. No overbearing or commanding influence overrides God's grace, goodness, or protection. Press into him when evil men rise up and nothing shall overtake your stand in Christ. Just sayin!
