Make the time

Let me hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, for I trust in You. Teach me the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to You. Teach me to do Your will [so that I may please You], for You are my God; let Your good Spirit lead me on level ground. (Psalm 143:8, 10)

I trust in You. Are these words true of your life - really true? If we still take the reins most of the time, I daresay our 'trust level' is quite low! If we find ourselves leaning in when we understand what life demands, just as frequently as we do when we don't understand what is required of us, then we are moving closer to 'trusting God fully' and our own worldly wisdom a lot less.

The way we 'should' walk often differs from the way we choose to walk, doesn't it? We start out well, but then there is some misstep along the way that takes us down a different path than we intended. God's ears are open to us asking for direction! Even when we have taken our own path. Our soul must be willing to concede that we don't always know the right path to take.

The will of God isn't always as clear as it can be, but that doesn't negate the need for us to remain in it, even when we don't always understand it. We all want 'level ground' in our lives - we even pray for it. We don't want the hurdles and the obstacles, do we? We want a clear shot at the finish line. The problem is that most races don't give us a 'clear shot' at the finish line. We have to run and run, then at some point, the 'line' becomes evident.

Our greatest obstacle to obedience is 'continuing', isn't it? We might understand a bit when we start the race, but what we don't understand can almost stifle our forward progress. I remember having to run a mile, in full fatigues, boots, etc., while in the military. Did it feel comfortable? Nope. Did I know how 'long' that mile was going to actually be in all that humidity? Nope. Did I run, nonetheless? Yup! Why? The instructions were to 'run' and 'make the time'.

Sometimes, our instructions are to run - knowing there isn't clear understanding as to what we will encounter. We know there is an end in mind - so we just run. It takes faith to 'run' when everything inside of us wants to just quit. It takes faith to 'continue' when the stress of the 'run' gets a bit too hard to endure. In life, we don't always get the 'ideal' conditions, but we 'run' nonetheless. Just sayin!
