Be faithful in the small things because it is in them your strength lies. (Mother Teresa)
Rick Warren reminds us, "If you are alive, there is a purpose for your life." Luke 16:10 tells us, "If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones." Faithfulness is 'measurable', is it not? The things we do with repeated commitment are considered to be the things we are 'faithful' to, such as flossing our teeth daily or taking a morning walk. Consider for a moment the things God is asking you to be 'faithful' to this year. It could be that he has challenged you to get into his word and discover what he has for you there. Perhaps he is asking you to put aside some of your 'leisure' pursuits and spend more time with your family, investing in their lives. Whatever he asks for your faithfulness in, be there and be committed to it.
As Mother Teresa said, our commitment to the small things really matters because it adds a 'strength' to our lives that we would be missing otherwise. Luke 19:26 reminds us, "...to those who use well what they are given, even more will be given. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away." Are you using what God has given to you? Not just those things that are 'easily given', but those talents within that others will benefit from when you are faithful to put them into service as God directs. Use well the gifts God has placed in your life and you will find your 'strength' multiplies rather than being depleted!
Paul reminded the church to "work well" and that meant we were to work willingly at whatever it is we have been called (purposed) to do. (Colossians 3:23) In fact, we are told that when we put into service the things or talents God has given us, we are actually doing it as a service to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Faithfulness is evident in an engaged spirit, heart, and mind. We can 'do' something with half-hearted commitment to it, being present in body, but spirit and mind are elsewhere. Engage your entire being in what God asks you to be faithful to this year and you might just find the blessings overflow in your life - blessings you had no idea existed or were possible for you. Just sayin!
