Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his ways! For who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to give him advice? And who has given him so much that he needs to pay it back? For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen. (Romans 11:33-36 NLT)
The riches, wisdom, and knowledge of God is indeed greater. Most of the time, it is greater than we can simply comprehend with our finite minds. We will face things this year that God has prepared in advance for us, but will we always understand what he is doing? No. Is it okay to ask him to show us what he has planned? Absolutely. Will he always unfold the whole picture at the start? Not usually. In other words, we might have to trust him a bit longer, search a bit deeper, and find wisdom like never before!
The most important thing we can learn from this passage is that trust doesn't mean we know everything up front. It means we know he is all-powerful, all-knowing, and always has our best interest in mind. Everything he does is with purpose - he is haphazard in his actions. Everything comes from him. It even exists because he says it can exist and remains in existence because of his great power. Knowing all this might not make us feel entirely comfortable when faced with life's challenges, but it should!
All God has planned for us is for his glory. That truth doesn't change depending on our understanding of the moment, or our 'buy-in' to whatever it he is doing within and around us. He has a purpose, and those plans will be worked out no matter what. It could take us a while to 'catch up' to what he is doing and where he is leading us but hold on because you and I are about to see things we would never have seen and come into places 'in him' that we might not have experienced before.
God isn't finished in me. How about you? Is he all done working things out in your life? Are all your hurts and hang-ups 'fixed'? Is your heart 100% committed to doing his will 100% of the time? Do you have balance in your emotions and a fixed mindset that keeps you from ever being enticed toward sinful actions? I am pretty sure the answer to all those questions is 'no'. You are not alone! God isn't about to let his work go unfinished. You can count on that. If nothing else keeps you focused on your goals of getting to know him better this year, that should! Just sayin!
