Do not be deceived and deluded and misled; God will not allow Himself to be sneered at (scorned, disdained, or mocked by mere pretensions or professions, or by His precepts being set aside.) [He inevitably deludes himself who attempts to delude God.] (Galatians 6:7 AMP)
Deluded - I had to look that one up to make sure I knew the exact meaning. It is more than just being misled - it means the individual actually believes something that is wrong. It is like seeing the color green but believing with all your heart that it is orange. The more someone tries to convince you it is not orange, the more you dig into your misdirected and mistaken belief that it is orange. Deception has many forms. We can bring it on ourselves because we don't want to believe truth, choosing some other 'story' that we tell ourselves because it is more convenient or more 'tolerable' to our taste. It can be thrown out there by others, reported as truth over and over again, until one day we accept it as truth. It can also come from the enemy of our soul himself, but he doesn't have to involve himself when the first two are more common than we may think!
We cannot set aside the precepts of God (his teachings). Precepts are simply 'rules' that are designed specifically to regulate behavior. When we train a dog to use the bathroom outside in the grassy area, we are 'regulating the behavior' that we find acceptable. When we train a child to use a fork and spoon instead of their fingers to eat their meal, we are 'regulating the behavior' that society references as 'refined' and 'tactful'. There are all kinds of 'precepts' in life, but none so important as those taught to us in scripture. To change what scripture says or determine only portions of scripture 'matter' or 'apply today' is giving into delusion. We are attempting to change the standard, and God will not tolerate it. His truth is not 'moldable' to our way of thinking. It changes our way of thinking to align with it!
Too many today want truth to be 'situational'. In other words, they want it to be 'morphed' into whatever they 'need' at the moment. If it is convenient to do what scripture says, they do it. If not, they find any other way to make themselves think they are really doing as scripture says, but really not doing it. This is where delusion takes hold. The one who makes God's truth 'situational' based upon their circumstances or their whims of the hour is setting themselves up to believe not only this lie, but the next and the next and the next. Truth is without compromise. God's precepts are unalterable. We must align with them, rather than believe they can align with whatever behavior suits us at the moment. Just sayin!
