For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord. (2 Timothy 1:7-9 NLT)
Plato once said, "We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light." Light brings what didn't seem to exist into existence. I said "didn't seem to exist" because it was there all the time, we just didn't acknowledge it. Sin remains hidden until light exposes it. Greed, mistrust, and our own human lust is uncovered by light. Even our human limits are uncovered by God's light, are they not? Mankind has come to fear light because they have become comfortable with their darkness.
Never be ashamed to bring the light into the darkness of this world, my friends. It may seem a little intimidating to stand before others, allowing your light to shine brightly. It may even seem that you will face more battles when you declare the truth of Jesus, but it doesn't limit the effectiveness of that light to reach into the hearts of some who otherwise would never have known that light! When we declare truth, we bring light. When we live by truth, we reveal the integrity of God's light in our hearts.
We believe the lies of our enemy that the world won't accept the light, but that is pure hogwash born out of the pit of hell. The more light is shared, the more darkness is pushed back. When you are bringing light by sharing God's truth, you are pushing back the forces of hell and bringing ALL the forces of heaven into that place. The fear we experience in sharing God's truth shouldn't keep us from doing it, though. Henry Ford said, "One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn't do." One of the greatest questions we can ask God is, "What have I been afraid to do?"
When we face the fear, light actually takes its place. Light within one's soul will ultimately lead to the sharing of that light. The mind, will, and emotions of a man are not there by accident. They can take us places we never dreamed of going, but when those places are defined by the light of Christ within a man, those places will be awesome. Just sayin!
