If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do. (James 1:5-8 NLT)
If you need wisdom - who on earth doesn't need a little insight into what is transpiring in their lives from time to time? Oh, I imagine there are some who will tell me it isn't necessary to seek 'outside help' because they are capable of figuring things out on their own. I will have to say there are some who will plug right along without ever seeking God's wisdom in a matter and they might just do 'okay'. I choose to do better than 'okay' in life, though, so I seek God's wisdom in matters even when I think I might have it 'figured out' all on my own! It makes for a much less 'bumpy ride'!
I always wondered why there would be a warning to be sure that our faith was in God alone. If we were to be honest here, we often place our 'faith' in things, people, and events that are not all that trustworthy. We count on the banks keeping our monies secure because they post signs that say the funds are 'insured'. Have you ever observed an insurance company dissolve? I have and it leaves people in a real pickle. We count on the weatherman to predict what is in store for us for the week ahead. Have you ever been caught in a downpour that wasn't predicted? I have neglected to take umbrellas because the 'chances of precipitation' were quite low, only to find myself drenched!
There are just some things we should never rely heavily upon, but do we place our trust in God above all other things, people, or events? That is the real question. We might have learned that two plus two equals four and it always will. Count on that because the 'conditions' don't ever change when adding these two positive numbers. Can we always trust that we will know what to do, when to do it, how it is to be done, or what outcome we can expect when all the conditions are met? Nope. In fact, there are times when we 'meet all the conditions' only to find the outcome was quite different than we expected. When we seek God's wisdom more than counting on the 'conditions' to be right, we might just find the outcome was in his hands all along. Just sayin!
