Are we alone in this?

I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth! He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps. The Lord himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night. The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever. (Psalm 121 NLT)

Where does your help come from when you are pinned in on every side, or you are just about to go under because you have assumed way too much for your day? If you are like me, you have a tendency to say, "I've got this", knowing that you will likely be very, very exhausted when you finally finish whatever it is. You set out with great intentions to actually accomplish a great deal, only to find you fizzle out somewhere because your physical, emotional, or even spiritual strength just wasn't what it should have been to accomplish everything you set as your 'mission for the day'. If you have ever told God, "I've got this", then just gone blindly on without much concern to hear from him to see if you really 'have this' or not, you probably wished you hadn't!

We all need to do a much better job letting God control our day, don't we? It is indeed a hard lesson to learn though. The more we 'try' to let go, the more we 'try' to hold on! The issue isn't that we don't love God, it is that we don't really trust that we need him in those areas where we think we have 'got this'. We either think those areas are too easy for him to handle, or we are ashamed to admit we need his help in those areas. Either way, we are going to continue to struggle with them until we finally realize that nothing is too small, too hidden, or too great for him to handle when we finally let go of it.

Look at what he says he will do:
- Never let us stumble. That means that our steps are ordered, and we can trust him with the path we are on. We don't have to take that first step alone because he is right there ensuring safe footing for us.
- Keep a watchful eye on us. We don't have to fear being caught off-guard by our enemy who prowls around looking for that 'lone sheep' he can devour. He is a protective God and will not allow us to be overtaken by anything we may not realize is 'stalking us'.
- Stands right there beside us. A protective shade isn't just there for looks. It is there because there is always too much that threatens to take us down and wear us out. He isn't about to let us succumb to those 'draining' things.
- Keep us from ALL harm. Not just in daytime, but throughout the night. That means that there is never a time when his watchfulness is 'lifted' or 'turned away'. He is the guard over our minds, spirits, emotions, and even our physical bodies. We just need to listen intently to his warning to avoid those things that will bring harm in any of those areas.

Lay hold of what he promises to you today and examine if you have been holding too tightly to something that you have told him you've "got" but really haven't! If you find any area where you haven't let him lead, maybe it is time you and he have a good heart-to-heart about it and you finally begin to trust him to take control of it. Just sayin!
