Godliness makes a nation great, but sin is a disgrace to any people. (Proverbs 14:34 NLT)
We cannot underestimate the power of a government that is guided by the direction of the Word of God and a vital understanding of intimate relationship with our heavenly Father. Whenever a nation veered from that intended relationship with God the Father, judgment was sure to follow. We need only look at what happened to the Israelites as they set about to both find their promised land after leaving Egypt and then what happened when they became comfortable or complacent once they were settled there. The division of the tribes into Judah and Israel, incorporating the worship of false gods, and then their subsequent captivity by various rulers wasn't God's intention, but it was the consequence of their losing their attentiveness toward God.
Godliness makes a nation great. We are reminded, "Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14) There is always a way back! The sinful pride that takes us so far away from what God intended for his people need only be repented. The hearts of a few intercessors can turn the tides of decay and corruption in a nation. The faithfulness of a few can make a huge difference - will you be among the few who will not turn your back on God and his principles? "If my people who are called by name..." - are you called by his name? If so, then your prayers, along with your living testimony of the grace and goodness of God, can be the catalyst for change in our great nation.
Sin is indeed a disgrace to ANY people. It need not be the case that a nation falls into decay and depravity. A godly remnant is all it takes to find our way back to God's grace. Most will never know who that remnant was, but ALL can reap the benefits of the faithful who will intercede for their nation. It matters not where you reside - what country you hail from - ALL have sinned, ALL fall short of the glory of God, ALL stand in need of a Savior, ALL need a remnant to stand against the enemy of our souls. The ANY can receive the benefits of the ALL when just a few stand in the gap. Repentance is the road to recovery. Let's be the ones who lead the way down that road. We can ALL use a praying FEW who will never let up. Just sayin!
