Light brings redemption

Your message brings light to people, when they understand it. It helps ordinary people to become wise. (Psalm 119:130 EASY)

Ordinary people with the wisdom of God - now isn't that a pretty amazing thought? The more we press into God's Word, the more his wisdom becomes part of who we are. The 'ordinary' become wise - not with 'common sense', but with wisdom that is born from the very heart of God himself.

His message brings light. How? It is a message of redemption. Anyone who has messed something up by some particular action will tell you that a chance at a 'do-over' can bring 'redemption' of sorts. When we didn't get a passing grade on our exam and the teacher announced we could retake it, that gave us a renewed sense of hope - hope for a passing grade. When God gives us light, he is showing us that our mess isn't going to be our undoing - it is the place where he can begin to reveal himself.

I am not alone in this - we all mess up on occasion. We all need a chance to learn from our 'mess up' and to 'redo' our choices if possible. Sometimes the choices we have made aren't able to be 'undone' by a simple 'do-over' because there were consequences such as a child out of wedlock, a loss of a job, or the bitter breakup of a relationship. Maybe we will raise the child, find a new job, and find forgiveness, but we lost so much in the process.

What we can gain from those times is wisdom - the wisdom to not make the same choices again. We find ourselves seeking God's help to understand why we made those choices that led to those consequences, then we lean into him to help us learn how to avoid those same mistakes in the future. Sometimes we are saved from ever experiencing some bad stuff because we listened to his wisdom BEFORE we made those choices. At other times, we learn FROM those choices what he would have us do to see restoration and wholeness again within our lives.

Ordinary choices can lead to both positive and negative outcomes. It depends on whether we operate within the light God gives us or choose to live according to our own wisdom. We probably will find out pretty soon that the light we possess is pretty dim compared to the light he gives! The choices we make in our earthly wisdom pale in comparison to the outcomes produced when he gives us his wisdom and we walk in the light he provides. Light brings redemption and redemption brings light. It works both ways, and I daresay we need both! Just sayin!
