No limits

I see the limits to everything human, but the horizons can’t contain your commands! (Psalm 119:96 MSG)

In this world, as long as we humans inhabit this space and time, there will be limits to what we can do - although there are no limits to what we can dream. The horizons look like they have an end point - but to be truthful, east and west are limitless. There is no end to the horizon - it continues into infinity. Try to chase that rainbow, seeking the 'pot of gold' at the end of it, and you will soon find you cannot really tell where it begins nor where it ends. God is a big God, and he made a big creation - the finite mind might try to contain all he can do and will do, but it is impossible for the finite to fathom the infinite!

WE all have limits - GOD does not. Knowing our limits is a good thing, but trusting God with what goes beyond our limits is an even better thing. We might see a situation as unbearable, but God says he will be with us when trouble comes our way, and he has already overcome that trouble (John 16:33). Temptations may come in the light of day or the stillness of nightfall, but God tells us he will never give us more than we can bear and will always provide a means of escape (I Corinthians 10:13). 

Sometimes we get these two things mixed up a bit, thinking scripture tells us we will never face more than we can bear, then we question why God lets bad stuff happen. Temptation is never more than we have a means of escaping - we just need to do what he says in order to be both prepared when it comes and have a plan of attack to resist, as a result. Situations or circumstances may come that are beyond our ability to control. Even though they are beyond our ability to control, they are never beyond our ability to walk through as long as Christ is right there walking us through. 

There are limits to all we do, say, and think. With God's help, we can sometimes see beyond those limits. We might not possess every talent known to man, but we possess exactly what we will need to face anything as long as Jesus is right there with us. The depth of our relationship with Jesus is probably one of the best ways to judge if we will be able to 'bear up' when trials come our way. Whenever we drift away from a deep, intimate relationship with him, the trials seem a whole lot bigger. The bottom line - we need to maintain a growing, thriving relationship with him.

The limits others try to place on us are blown out of the water when Jesus is central in our lives. There are no limits to his ability. There are no limits to his grace, either. If we have drifted, grace can bring us right back into that closeness with him. If we have believed a lie of any kind, he sends his truth to set us right again. If we have doubted his goodness or presence with us, we need only look up from our circumstances to see he has been there all along. There are no limits with him. Just sayin!
