Remarkable secrets?

Ask me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come. (Jeremiah 33:3 NLT)

What remarkable secrets is God just waiting to unfold for you if you'd only ask? The issue is not that we have a stingy, secretive God - it is that we don't ask him to reveal those 'hidden things'. The more we seek God's wisdom, the more he unfolds it. Scripture reminds us, "If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking." (James 1:5) He is indeed a generous God and delights in unveiling our eyes. Veiled eyes may see, but do they see as clearly as when the veil is removed? Absolutely not! The veil over our eyes may seem like it is 'permanent', so we just live with the uncertainties it creates. God's hope is that we will seek his help in removing it so we can see clearly all the things he delights in showing his children.

Remarkable secrets - things we didn't even know were part of our heritage in Christ Jesus. As we delve into scripture day-after-day, does God expose us to truths that once were hidden from our 'vision'? Amazingly, yes. The same scripture that we have read before takes on a whole different aspect of meaning because of the circumstances we have walked through since we last read that passage. The events of life opened our eyes to seek, but they also opened our heart to understand God just a little bit deeper. The more we seek, the more we may need to ask questions of God. If you have ever done any work in a science class, you know that you formulate a hypothesis about what you expect will happen or has happened. As you break down the elements before you, you might discover 'hidden' truths within your work. A similar thing happens when we go to God's Word with eyes seeking to uncover and truly understand what may help us make sense of what is going on in our lives today.

There is no magic way to study scripture, but a seeking heart will always be rewarded with something when they do. The more we desire to know God and his ways, the more he reveals bits and pieces of who he is, what he desires of us, and how he wants to move through us. Those things may have seemed impossible to understand a few months ago, but today there is a discovery beyond what we believed to be possible. That is because God has been at work in us even when we didn't realize he was doing that work. The things 'to come' within our lives are vast and mostly 'unknown' to each of us. In God's wondrous timing, he begins to reveal his plans, and we begin to see what was 'unknown' then but is becoming clearer and clearer now. God doesn't want to hold his truth back from us, but sometimes our hearts aren't ready to receive what he wants to bring to us. As we seek, we find our hearts are made ready to receive.

Never be afraid to ask God to reveal his 'remarkable secrets' to you. Don't expect them overnight, though. It could be he has some work to do to get us ready to receive those 'secrets'. Just sayin!
