Who changed?

Lord, your teaching will always be there. You keep it safe in heaven. You continue to show that people can trust you, from one century to the next. You have fixed the earth in its place, and it will remain. I will never forget your rules, because you have used them to give me life. (Psalm 119:89-90, 93)

We aren't going to find anything else that endures as well as God's truth - it is enduring, trustworthy, and without a doubt, the most reliable teaching we will ever receive. What we do with it might not be as reliable, though! We can accept it, reject it, or do a half-hearted commitment to it. There will always be some who will outright reject the validity of God's Word, while others will empathically state it truth without really allowing it to embrace them, changing the way they 'operate' in their daily lives. God's hope is that we will both delight in his Word AND allow it to change the way we live. Why? He knows as long as we rely upon human wisdom above his divine wisdom, our choices will lead us toward self-sufficiency and that is most unreliable!

I have yet to trust God's Word and find it isn't reliable. I have been serving God since I was about 14 years old and have come to trust when he says he will do something, that is exactly what he will do. His methods may vary, but his faithfulness will not. His truths are NEVER changing - unlike our promises, his are unbroken. It is through his Word that he gives us life and that is indeed abundant beyond our wildest imaginings. There will never come a time when his Word is invalid or rendered useless. We may not know it yet, but his Word is not only sustaining us today, but it is pulling us closer and closer to his heart. We have but to embrace his Word to begin to 'feel' the embrace of his grace.

What wavers then? Is it his Word? Nope, it is our fickle heart. Our mind, will, and emotions can prove to be the most untrustworthy things we have to cope with in this lifetime. We think our way out of trusting God to do as he says, allowing our emotions to get all bundled up until we actively choose to do things our way instead of the way he has determined to be best for us. When that happens, we find ourselves doubting God meant what he said. His Word did not change - our trust in it did! We cannot blame God for our lack of trust - that one is on us. He continues to reveal his truth - we just continue to reject it or 'alter it' to fit our beliefs. The sooner we realize he hasn't changed, the quicker we may find ourselves realizing we need to be the ones to do some changing. Just sayin!
