Quiet doesn't mean we are silent

Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge. (Psalm 62:5-8) As you may have already figured out, waiting quietly before God is not all that easy at times. We want things to change, so we find ourselves being anything less than 'quiet' in response to the circumstances. Remember - prayer may never change the circumstances, but it does go a long, long way toward changing our hearts in the process of going through those circumstances. Just because life throws us curve balls on occasion doesn't mean our peace needs to be disturbed. We can be 'at peace' in God's presence and still express our need for God to intervene in those issues. The 'quietness' of our spirit isn'...

Enjoying life?

“If you want to enjoy life and see many happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it. The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers. But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil.” (2 Peter 3:10-12) Notice this promise to enjoy life and see many happy days begins with keeping our tongues under control. Why? An out of control one is like igniting a can of gasoline! There is little it won't touch, leaves very little unaffected by its attacks, and creates a bunch of havoc that is difficult to get under control once it has done the work of ignition! Search for peace and work to maintain it. More than ever, this is a time when we need to be working toward peace, not moving further and further away from it by driving out own agendas, creating divisions amongst groups, or telling each other untruths ...
