Quiet doesn't mean we are silent

Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him,
for God is our refuge. (Psalm 62:5-8)

As you may have already figured out, waiting quietly before God is not all that easy at times. We want things to change, so we find ourselves being anything less than 'quiet' in response to the circumstances. Remember - prayer may never change the circumstances, but it does go a long, long way toward changing our hearts in the process of going through those circumstances. Just because life throws us curve balls on occasion doesn't mean our peace needs to be disturbed. We can be 'at peace' in God's presence and still express our need for God to intervene in those issues. The 'quietness' of our spirit isn't affected by the 'noise' of the circumstance!

If there is a whole lot of 'shaking' going on in your life right now, don't lose heart. The wishy-washy, half-hearted, in word alone 'Christian' isn't a threat to Satan. The on fire, firmly rooted, peace-filled one is! That's likely why there is some shaking going on. Take refuge in his fortress and don't let your peace be disturbed. As you can see from our passage today, our 'quietness' doesn't mean we don't pour out our hearts to him. It means we don't let the things of this world, the circumstances of our day, or the taunts of our enemy disturb our trust and hope in him. A rock where no enemy can reach me - those words really say it all. There is a 'shelter' in his presence that is unlike any other.

Wait quietly BEFORE him. In other words, get into his presence and let that peace settle over your heart. Don't give into the worries and anxieties this world tries to push into the cracks and crevices of your life. The more we take time in his presence, the less we find our hearts and minds being affected by all of life's woes. Trust in him at all times. As we pour out our heart to him, we never waver in our complete trust in who he is, what he has done for us, and what he continues to do on our behalf. The greatest threat to our peace is when we begin to rehearse all the trouble and woes to ourselves instead of taking them to the one who already has them under his control. Just sayin!
