His 'rightful place'
But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit. (Jeremiah 17:7-8)
Trust in the Lord - the basis of all blessings. Make the Lord your hope and confidence - the source of all protection. Plant yourself like a tree - firmly rooted in Christ Jesus and immovable. Trials will come - your trust isn't in the circumstance, but in the Lord God Almighty. Stay green - stay growing. Never stop producing fruit - it is evidence you are well-rooted and well-connected.
If we are trusting in our own plan, or our own strength to pull us through tough circumstances, we might as well give into them right now. The truly wise individuals will realize both of those options are flawed and will immediately surrender control to the one who is beyond able and perfectly capable of getting them through. Not only 'through', but 'blessed' in the process. That might seem a little improbable to those going through tough times right now, but it is a tested and proven fact that God will protect and guide those whom he loves and calls his own.
We make God our hope when we turn to him instead of ourselves or others when the circumstances seem too big to handle alone. We make him our confidence when we trust him with not only the tough or touchy situations, but the regular, common everyday stuff of life. God isn't just the God of the 'tough stuff' - he is the God of the ordinary stuff, too. We might forget that from time to time, taking life for granted until there is some bump in the road. He never forgets his 'rightful place' is in the center of your life, even when you do. Just sayin!
