The Plumbline

Over the past several weeks, we have been exploring this topic of wisdom. Being something we all need so desperately to be the guide over our thoughts and the "governor" over our actions, we certainly haven't wasted any time by learning what we can about wisdom.  Yet, if we look outside of the Proverbs, we even see hints of what Solomon was sharing as he described the thought processes of the wise, their motivation for action, and the determination to live by the principles God teaches.  One such "hint" comes from words penned by his father, King David, as he recounts the relationship he has had with our heavenly Father.  This psalm begins with the reminder of God "looking deep into our hearts and knowing everything about us" - a thought which might just intimidate some of us!  One such reminder about the awesomeness of our God is this whole idea of God knowing our thoughts - looking down from heaven and actually "discovering" our thoughts. ...

We have a group of people in our lives who worry about everything, don't we?  They find some disaster far, far away - totally removed from them - and worry about how it will affect them or those they love.  I was driving home the other day and caught just a little of the newscast revealing the last Ebola patient has gone home from the hospital in Liberia. Another 40 plus days and they will be declared to be Ebola free in that nation.  Then came the report of the next possible places for outbreaks, all based on their poor healthcare system and lack of sanitation in their countries.  The moment of celebration was absolutely lost when the next few seconds were dedicated to painting the ugliness of potential outbreak.  It was like saying all the hard work to eradicate it in Liberia was good, but those who are not as far along in their prevention methods will be next.  I don't think the intended purpose was to keep people from traveling, but if you are at all i...

I like the social media site known as "Pinterest" because it gives me tons of ideas of things I can do to not only save money around the house, but plant my garden, organize my drawers, and even take better pictures with my camera.  It has such a wide variety of stuff posted there and I just love taking an hour here and there to peruse the content which has been uploaded.  Now, I don't take advantage of the full site, because I don't have little kids around anymore, so those crafts and "hacks" are not as helpful to me.  They are good, but they don't touch my life where it is I live life everyday.  I think this is why the Word of God is sometimes so rich for us in some respects and there are portions which just don't seem to touch us as deeply on occasion.  We find those portions which are very helpful for wherever it is we are living life at the moment and these become the tools by which we "do life".  Just as we have examples of good gard...
